About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Inter Milan delivered a dominant performance in their Serie A clash against Pisa, securing a resounding 6-2 victory at home. This result was largely anticipated given Inter's superior squad depth and form, contrasting with Pisa's struggles in the league. The match began with Pisa taking a surprising early lead through Stefano Moreo, who scored twice in the first 23 minutes. However, Inter quickly regained control, with Piotr Zieliński (GAP +2.0%) equalizing in the 39th minute. Lautaro Martínez (GAP +5.6%) then put Inter ahead just two minutes later, showcasing his clinical finishing. Inter extended their lead just before halftime with a goal from Francesco Esposito, making it 3-2 at the break. The second half saw Inter's dominance continue, with Federico Dimarco and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (GAP +4.0%) adding to the scoreline in the final stages. Ange-Yoan Bonny also found the net in the 86th minute, capping off a comprehensive victory. Tactically, Inter's manager made effective use of his substitutes, with Federico Dimarco and Ange-Yoan Bonny both scoring after coming off the bench. The home side's defensive solidity was highlighted by Stefan de Vrij (GAP +8.3%) and Alessandro Bastoni (GAP +6.0%), who effectively neutralized Pisa's attacking threats after the initial setbacks. Pisa's lineup saw several changes, with Lorran, Gabriele Piccinini, and others coming in as substitutes, but these adjustments failed to alter the course of the game. Inter's ability to rotate their squad without losing quality was evident, as they maintained their attacking prowess throughout the match. This victory solidifies Inter's position in the upper echelons of the Serie A table, while Pisa remains in a precarious position, needing to improve their defensive organization to avoid further setbacks. Inter's attacking display will boost their confidence as they continue to chase the league leaders.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
